Who is Brian Taylor?

Technology and Business Consulting

Brian has over a decade of experience providing premier consulting services for local, regional, and national companies.  He has contributed his time, talents, and expertise in assisting numerous clients of all sizes and backgrounds in learning how to weave new technologies into their daily business practices.

At 13, Brian was introduced to the world of computers. He learned how to build a computer from the ground up and began writing simple programs. He quickly became the ‘go to’ guy when his family and friends needed help with their computers. He also discovered that he had the ability to explain technical jargon to nontechnical people in a fun and friendly way.

Early in his career, Brian was asked to join an elite team of technical recruiters based in southern California.  The team needed someone who knew their way around a computer network and had the ability to talk with both technical and nontechnical personnel in a corporate setting. This opportunity gave him the chance to work with the best and brightest in the Information Technology (IT) industry.

As Brian continued his foray into the IT business, he held various direct sales and marketing positions, and with each promotion he received increased responsibility and knowledge.  Among his clients were the Utah Symphony, the Utah State Bar Association, and Unbroken Trust, a child advocacy organization.

Currently, Brian is part of a team of professionals that provide clients with Cisco solutions.  He and his fellow team members work in concert with some of the finest technology partners in Orange County, California.  He is honored to be a part of the team that helps the small-to-medium-sized business market find better methods of doing things (i.e. keeping their digital assets secure, upgrading their communications network while keeping an eye on the bottom line, etc.).

Radio, Theater, Cinema, and Public Speaking

Brian knew at an early age that he wanted to work in the field of communications.  Shortly after graduating from high school, Brian attended the American Technical Center School of Broadcasting.  He was mentored by some of the top professionals in the radio and television genres.  He spent hours in the studios of the school, honing his speaking and production skills.  Prior to his graduation, he interviewed for a position at KSIT 104.5 FM (now 99.7 FM), a classic rock station in Rock Springs, WY.  He accepted the offer and soon became the host of the station’s morning show. He also produced live newscasts, scripted and voiced numerous commercials, and engaged the public at various remote broadcasts.

Brian found additional opportunities in the radio business.  On the FM side of the dial, he worked as a weekend host, fill-in host, and voice talent for KBZN, a smooth jazz station. On the AM side of the dial, he was a producer for a group of talk radio hosts at KCNR 1320 (later moved to 860) who were among the first to broadcast their shows live over the Internet. This group also went on to form an Internet broadcasting company and asked Brian to provide them with technical advice and host/produce a weekly show that discussed the latest trends in Internet technology.

Brian’s communications experience also extends to live theater.  In 1992, Lagoon Amusement Park was seeking an emcee that could also co-script and co-produce a live high-diving show that the park was presenting to celebrate the 1992 Summer Olympic Games.  Brian auditioned for the role and was personally selected by the Entertainment Director to take on the gig.  Brian had the opportunity to work with divers from France, Switzerland, Denmark, Iceland, Canada, Mexico, and the United States.  The team performed more than 500 live shows that mixed together classic dives, comedy sketches, and culminated with a high drive from a platform suspended 85 feet above the ground. The International High Diving Spectacular was a huge success!  At the end of the season, the founder of the diving show presented Brian with a handwritten note - the note stated that in the many years and many countries in which the founder had produced this event, Brian was one of the top three emcees he had worked with.

In April of 2007, Brian entered the realm of independent film making.  He was approached by Dave Williams (a longtime friend and cinema enthusiast) about making a film for the 48 Hour Film Project.  Dave needed a producer that would compliment his role as director.  Brian, Dave, and the team created the short film The Sports of Mandibular.  It was screened at the Broadway Centre Cinemas and was well received by the audience.

In May of 2008, Brian, Dave, and the team at Prodigal Entertaiment Group created their second film, Learning Police Techniques, for the 2008 tour of the 48 Hour Film Project.  This film was also well received by the audience and fellow film makers.

In regard to public speaking, Brian has addressed audiences of all sizes and disciplines.  As a former member of the Business Information Technology Committee for the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce, Brian presented a series of seminars on a wide variety of technology concepts to a myriad of business owners and entrepreneurs. In addition, he was a featured speaker at two Bill Good Marketing User Conferences. He has also been a guest speaker in several high school business classes.

Teaching and Mentorship

Brian is a perpetual student himself.  He understands that once you stop learning, you stop growing. He seeks to learn from the best and in turn share his knowledge with those around him.

His first teaching opportunity came when he joined the faculty of Certified Careers Institute, a private business college that specialized in information technology. Brian taught hands-on lab-based courses that prepared students for Microsoft, Novell, and CompTIA certification tests.  In addition, Brian coached graduates through mock job interviews, giving them feedback on their presentation and communication skills. Brian also had the honor of traveling to Hill Air Force Base once a week to represent the college at the Education Center.

Brian’s next teaching opportunity occurred when he joined Bill Good Marketing, a company that specializes in providing client marketing, prospecting, and office management strategies to financial advisors. He was one of the consultants that taught the Gorilla Training Seminar (a five-day event in which financial advisors and their staff members learned the basics of the Bill Good Marketing System), the Sales Assistant Boot Camp (a four-day course that focused on goal setting, cold-calling, script writing, etc.), and the Service Assistant Boot Camp (a four-day course that centered on client retention, office processes, organizing the team, etc.).

Brian is also a member of the Alumni Advisory Board for Western Governors University

Personal

Brian enjoys a wonderful marriage to his wife Michelle.  She works for The Housing Connection, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Salt Lake Convention and Visitors Bureau.  Their daughter is attending college and is planning to enter the entertainment industry specializing in hand-drawn animation.

Brian and his family share a passion for horses. He enjoys spending time with Berrycuda, Syrenity, and Sweethearrt.  He has been the emcee for various equestrian events and served as the editor for the Utah Arabian Horse Club Gazette.

Brian is a raving fan of Food Network.  His favorite show is the original Iron Chef series (Allez Cuisine!).  He also enjoys Iron Chef America as well as Emeril Live, Good Eats, Ham on the Street, The Secret Life Of..., Unwrapped, and Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.

Brian is also becoming reacquainted with a hobby he loved as a boy...astronomy.  He was given an Orion StarBlast Astro Telescope as a Christmas present. He now anxiously awaits the dark so that he can once again peer into the heavens.
